9 weeks… more or less…

It’s May 24th.  I am 31 weeks pregnant and I have a little acrobat living in my belly. I am not kidding. This ones moves A LOT and OFTEN.

I am feeling better at this point in my pregnancy than I did for either Layla or Meaghan… maybe it’s the weather… maybe it’s something else… but despite being tired and always a little uncomfortable – I’m good. Here’s hoping it lasts.

I am trying to figure out where the last couple of weeks disappeared to. I am thinking off and on about potential baby names. I am  wondering if there’s anything I should be doing to prepare for the this new little girl. Continue reading

The rest of April…

This month has just flown by… but this time, I’m not left wondering where the time went. We lived so much, accomplished so much and are looking forward to a slightly calmer month of May! Continue reading

A quick update…

It’s been a while (again… so much for being resolved to post more consistently…) so I figured it was time for a little update.

The BELLY - the number of people commenting on how my baby bump seems to have popped has increased significantly in the last 2 weeks. There is definitely no hiding that baby number 3 is on the way. So far my third pregnancy is similar and totally different from the other two. I suffered from consistent nausea for the first 20 weeks or so (at 26 1/2 weeks, I’m happy to be done with that!) but I don’t seem to be having issues with my pubis symphysis (look it up – it’s not something you want to have issues with)… yet… so I’m more comfortable that I would have been when I was carrying Layla or Meaghan at 6 months pregnant. Instead, I’m having some pretty crappy circulation issues… ugliness, pain and discomfort included. Still- I’m grateful. The baby seems active and healthy, the girls kiss my belly every day and I’m really excited to meet and get to know her! Continue reading

Our Diet is Evolving

homemade-bread2I think every family develops their own eating style. Some borrowed from her upbringing, some borrowed from his… and a myriad of other influences along the way. We pick and chose from the foods we’re exposed to (not to mention all the “good eating” theories out there) to find a way that is our own -  a diet that we’re comfortable with (and that the kids will eat without too much of a fight!).

Not as simple as grabbing some grub and stuffing your face!

Even though we all have to eat and we all have to figure out what and how we’re going to feed ourselves – eating well is not as simple as it once seemed. In fact, I would say that it feels  like more and more people are talking about how we should be eating. For crying out loud – McDonald’s has even started marketing a “real food” message and adding healt”ier” options to their selection!

Figuring out your eating style may just be harder than ever though – especially if you want to make conscious and healthy decisions. There are just so many competing voices out there. Eat more vegetables, eat less carbs, eat more meat, eat less meat, go unprocessed, add more fish, don’t eat too much fish… and the list goes on.

This is going to cost me!

Now that we know for sure that we’re having another little girl, I couldn’t help myself when I saw the adorable pekkle pyjamas and onesies at Costco this  weekend. I left with ten onesies, four 3-month sleepers, two 6-month sleepers and two adorable “outfits”(+ one more from the Children’s Place)… and even though they were all priced really low – my total bill came up to just under $100. Ouch.

A few 3-month outfits

In retrospect, maybe giving/selling all my baby stuff when I was fundraising for summit for wishes wasn’t such a good idea. Maybe? Uh… definitely!

This is going to cost me!

But it’s going to be so much fun too . I’ll just have to cut back on other things… and find a good second hand baby clothing/apparel store nearby!

On a whim…

Don’t ask me why I’m back after months of silence… but I am.

I wanted to share my great find… a dress for my brother’s wedding.

Since I’ll be exactly 6 months pregnant on their big day, I’ve been searching the web for nice formal maternity gowns. Not easy to find – especially when I need something shipped to Canada.

After posting a questions “where do I find a nice formal maternity dress?” on my aok facebook page last night, I stopped at the BCBG outlet store just for fun on my lunch hour today… and found the perfect dress.

I was impressed at the HUGE selection of long (and short) dresses, and with the help of a great sales rep searched for long (that way my belly can’t make it too short) and flowing (so that my belly still fits in it in 2 months time) dresses. I probably tried on 12.

I found a few really good options, but it was the last one (with the biggest price tag of course) that caught my attention. I asked why it wasn’t on sale like the others and when she passed it through the cash, it had just been reduced… by half! AWESOME.

VENDU.

I tried to find a picture of it on the web… but the best I can do is show you the style and the colour in two different pictures. It’s a little hard to imagine with the belly, but it really looked beautiful and classy and chic. I’m so excited to wear it for real!

And since it’s just a couple sizes bigger than I normally wear… maybe I’ll be able to take it in and wear it again someday? Maybe.

Not ready for Christmas yet…

credit : dryicons.com

At the risk of writing a post about the “weather”…

Christmas music is playing, the malls are bursting at the seams (don’t even get me started on the parking situation!) and the familiar buzz of the holidays is getting louder and louder… but… it’s different this year. Yes, it’s the end of November. Yes, we’ve had (just barely) our first snow (even though it’s already melted), but despite the fact that most years I’m counting down to the first weekend of December to put up the Christmas tree (next week…!) I’m just not ready yet… and I’m not totally embracing the early arrival of telltale holiday everything.

For someone who loves “Christmas” (and when I say Christmas -  I’m referring to the true meaning and the season of giving and family, but I’m also referring to the decorations, the food, the music, the parties… it’s ALL special in my books), I’m wondering if this hesitation to jump into holiday preparations this year is brought on by the weather? And not the bad weather… the unusually great weather that we had in Montreal over the past month.

She’s crazy, right? I know that’s what you’re thinking… But  come on, normally, november is so dark and gray and depressing. One (such as myself) can’t help but jump into the excitement and buzz of the upcoming holiday season… it helps to… I don’t know… add that little sizzle into an otherwise dreary month.

Sure, this month has been dark (as usual) and it’s still disturbing to leave work in the dark (!)… but on the other hand, we’ve had some incredibly warm and even sunny weather. I’ve had a few invigorating lunchtime runs… I just took my winter coat out this week when got our first snow… and that snow is not gone AND we’re expecting well above freezing temperatures until at least mid-week.

Christmas? Really?

Makes me wonder how people in climates with less extreme seasons feel…
